‘I sit in a living room. I am listening to a conversation between two people. Their conversation does not make any sense to me. Yet I listen. It seems to take place somewhere else, somewhere I haven’t been. I try to trace the conversation. I try to write it down. The more I write, the less I am sure of where the sentences come from. It seems like they are no longer part of the conversation I am listening to. I realise the written words have become mine, that they no longer exist as spoken sound, and that they no longer belong to the person who uttered the words… I am no longer sitting in the living room. I am in a place I have been, but have never tread.’
’It Had Something To Do With The Telling Of Time’

Annee Grøtte Viken (NO) is an artist, writer, researcher, architect and artisan holding a MA in interior architecture from the Studio for Immediate Spaces at the Sandberg Instituut. Grøtte Viken explores how fiction can function as a tool for approaching, understanding and making space, rooted in a  multidisciplinary attitude as fragmented as the society in which it is inserted. Grøtte Viken has published a book on the subject of ‘spaces in fiction’ (It Had Something To Do With The Telling Of Time, Onomatopee) and recently finished a residency combining fiction and material research at the Jan/Margaret van Eyck Academie in Maastricht as the collaborative practice, Albergo Rosa with architect Maximiliaan Royakkers. Grøtte Viken has worked with among others writingplace.org – an online platform for architecture and literature, Take Me On Podcast series, Macguffin magazine, Jewellery Perspectives and the Sandberg Instituut. Her work has been presented by; Jan van Eyck Academie, Bureau Europa Maastricht, Suns & Stars Exhibitions; Amsterdam, Garage; Rotterdam, Triangle; Marseille, Stroom; Den Haag, Onomatopee; Eindhoven and ZZ3; Hasselt.
