ABOUT

Faux Fiction

artistic practice&#38;nbsp;
As an artist and writer with a background in architectural conservation I use fiction as a tool for exploring the cultural and material realities of space and the potential they hold for repairing broken relationships. In particuar in relation to nature. Looking to language and craftsmanship as agents for attention and dialogue I often develop works in close collaboration with others across fields and cultures to help question how we relate to space, its multiple and interwoven meanings, and how it affects the way we relate to the world around us. Rooted in place, stories and practices tied to growing up on a farm in the countryside in Norway.&#38;nbsp; 
Based in Brussels and Norway.

&#38;nbsp;Education and current workMa from the Studio for Immediate Spaces at the Sandberg Institute Amsterdam,&#38;nbsp; a craftsmanship Diploma in decorative painting from Institut Superieur De Peinture Van Der Kelen-Logelain in Brussels, and a Post-Master in Architectural Conservation from the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm. 
Currently working on the topic of the «garden», developing site specific work in public space (Sluisbuurt, Amsterdam). “The Linseed Oil Schoolyard” or  “The most useful — artefact” revolves around flax, linseed oil, pigments and practices of making. The work is developed in collaboration with the (Nelly&#38;amp;) Theo van Doesburg Stichting and curator Jules van den Langenberg.





Extended practice
Teach CREATIVE WRITING at Ma Corpo-real, the master studio of Interior Architecture at ArtEZ (NL),&#38;nbsp; runs the studio CABANE for works related to crafts, design, (future) heritage and architecture (cabane.no), co-founder of SELBU HUSFLIDSCENTRAL a local business that takes care of the intangible cultural heritage of the Selbu knitting tradition (selbuhusflidscentral.no) currently located in Selbu at Selbu Bygdemuseum and at Sverresborg Museum in Trondheim NO.&#38;nbsp; Co-initator of ULLDAGA - a local network (of farmers, biologists, artists, artisans, designers, architects, spinning mills) working on research on and sustainable use of wool @ulldaga21_23. AUNHEIM a shared, long term engagement of relocating and rebuilding a traditional log-house (former community house) on the family farm in Selbu, Norway.&#38;nbsp; Follow the process&#38;nbsp; @aunheim.

FIRST CYCLE: 
BE ONE TO MAKE ONE


CUT TO: GARDEN, EXT. EARLY EVENING

In the frame we see a variety of greens bathed in a soft turquoise light. The frame is broken by an irregular presence of familiar sounds. We are in a rundown garden that seized to exist as a garden and ran into wilderness until a Lord cut his trees about thirty years ago and the plot was once again considered to be worthy of being a garden, or seen as something that had the right to be cultivated. The garden is partly overgrown with bushes and trees whose branches and twigs lay low and embrace each other in the spaces in between, with intuitive arms whose leaves make crisp sounds as cassette tape in the hands of a con artist. Their veins squeezes and frowns as the larvae makes its final move and cuts into the leaf with slimy, guttural sounds. It silently wishes it could eat louder, as to finally warn off the gardens ever circling predators once and for all.THE BOTANIST

”You had to account for every move, arrival or exit. In the world there was a conspiracy against improvisation. It was only permitted in jazz.”

THE GARDEN

You already knew this but I guess the conspiracy became visible when you crossed it and images became the currency. You long to stay inside. You long for that breeze; that experience, that love. I am a voyage, I have seized to exist as a place, I exist as your desire and dream, your faith and death. I love you too but you are not my god. I think it’s honest.

COSMICOMICS* – was a three-day workshop by 
Annee Grøtte Viken in collaboration with Jorge Mejia Hernández and Mark Proosten, as part of an event by Writingplace laboratory for architecture and literature on time, storytelling and space at the art academy ArtEZ, campus Zwolle. The workshop followed lectures on the theme by Klaske Havik, Rob Hendriks and Jacob Voorthuis and explored how time is conveyed in literary narratives and how it can be translated into spatial structures and experiences. A selection of storylines touching on various conceptions of time formed the program for a 1:1 exploration of time, storytelling and space. The preceding text is a brief account of the conversations around the process and works produced by students from Corporeal, MA Interior Architecture, during the workshop.

Buildings retain the testimony of time like a continuous progression of their existence. Some will grow old and count the centuries, while others exist as temporary spatial manifestations of weeks or even days. Yet no matter the timeframe, buildings have to endure traces of use, modifications or other external forces that leave their mark upon them.

We travel constantly in architectonic space and through time, it is an inevitable, continuous process of existence. As much as architects are often unable to influence the time and its impact upon a building, authors explore their ability to do so. A novelist can build up a storyline that embraces the entire history of the universe in 432 pages or turn 1076 pages into a sole event, on a single day, in a specific place. Time is an inherent part of storytelling, whether it exists inside or outside the words on the page. Time can be sped up or slowed down, manipulated or enhanced. Time is of the essence.

How can working with the concept of time in literature open up the way we understand and create architecture?
